Iran representative’s secretary general position was prorogated for the next two years in the previous ministerial meeting of GECF, naftnews reported. Libya representative was another candidate for this position; however, Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli from Iran was elected.
Mr. Leonid Bokhanovskiy was the first Secretary General of the GECF, elected in 2010 and re-elected for the 2012-2013 term. His previous experience included high-level posts in the gas and financial sectors.
Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli is the second Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and was appointed in this position by Resolution No. 1/MM-15/2013 of the 15th Ministerial Meeting (Tehran, Iran, November 3, 2013) for the period of 2014-2016.
Seyed Mohammed Hossein Adeli is an economist, diplomat and academic with extensive government and private sector experience in energy, economics, international relations and diplomacy. He has a Ph.D. in Business Administration and a Ph.D. in Economics.
He has held Government positions in Iran such as Advisor to the Minister of Oil on International Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic and Energy Affairs, Governor of the Central Bank, Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Iranian Ambassador to Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Secretary General is the chief officer in the Secretariat and is the legally authorized representative of the Forum. In this capacity, he has the authority to carry out the executive functions of the Forum in accordance with directions of the Executive Board and the GECF Statute, and is liable and accountable to both the Executive Board and the Ministerial Meeting.
The Long-term strategy and the global gas model was one of the most significant plans proposed in Tehran Ministerial Meeting. Completing the first part of the global gas market development model will be a great help to the research activities and long-term developmental scenarios.
